Shortly before her death on September 8, 2022, Queen Elizabeth II befriended a famous American actor: Tom Cruise.
The "Top Gun" star had indeed come to attend the celebrations of the platinum jubilee of the monarch.
At the time, Elizabeth II could not meet him because of his mobility problems.
So she had invited him to tea a few weeks later.
And the feeling went very well...
A totally unexpected friendship.
According to a source from The
Sunday Times , Queen Elizabeth II and
Top Gun
star Tom Cruise
became "amicably closer" a few weeks before the Queen's death.
The Hollywood star attended the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations, which marked her 70-year reign, last June.
"They both had tea"
But, at the time, Elizabeth II had health problems and could not meet Tom Cruise.
It was only a few weeks later that the actor and the monarch met.
"The Queen said she was really disappointed not to have met Tom Cruise at this event. He was therefore invited to take a special tour of Windsor Castle, where everything was planned for him. Afterwards, they both had tea," the source said.
Fan of Tom Cruise, Elizabeth II authorized the actor to come and visit him at Windsor Castle… by helicopter!
"She loved seeing him and they really hit it off, so much so that she invited him back for lunch," the source said.
Alas, their friendship, which should have materialized during this famous lunch, was stopped dead by the death of the queen, on September 8, 2022.
“She is a woman that I admire enormously”
Tom Cruise had already expressed his deep admiration for the sovereign at the time of her platinum jubilee.
"She is a woman that I admire enormously. I think she is someone who has great dignity and I admire her dedication," he said.
"What she has accomplished is historic. She has met presidents, world leaders, people from all walks of life. Americans are not the only ones to recognize the Queen's dignity, dedication and kindness. It is what I have always felt for her. She is someone who understands her position and has held it throughout an extraordinary seventy-year history."
