The Louvre Museum launches a fundraising campaign to raise an amount that will allow him to buy a famous pack of cigars

Tomorrow, the Louvre will launch its thirteenth annual fundraising campaign as part of its "Toss Meissen!" initiative, so that it can buy a prized box of cigars owned by French politician Etienne de Choisault, one of the most prominent ministers during the reign of Louis XV.

The French museum hopes to raise at least 1.2 million euros for this 18th-century gold-colored, crystal-encrusted box.

The museum had previously received an amount of 500,000 euros from the "Friends of the Louvre", while it continues to seek additional funds from prominent French and foreign companies and donors, with the aim of raising the necessary funds, represented by 3.9 million euros.

Thanks to the donations of 5,600 parties totaling one million euros, in 2021 a masterpiece designed by Giovanni Ambrogio Misseroni (1551-1616) was added to the national collections.

Since its launch in 2010, a total of 30,000 donors have participated in the Tous Messien initiatives, including 12,000 who have made their donations more than once, according to the museum.

The 2017 campaign was an exceptional success in terms of raising 1.5 million euros from 8,500 donors, allowing the museum to purchase a calendar book of King François I.
