Already authorized to vaccinate against the flu and Covid, pharmacists have since Monday, November 7, 2022 the authorization to inject the eleven compulsory vaccines, on prescription, reports France Bleu Drôme Ardèche.

From now on, it is therefore possible to be vaccinated against diphtheria, tetanus, poliomyelitis, measles, mumps or rubella in pharmacies.

With this measure, the price of the act should drop from 7.50 euros to 9.50 euros from January 1, the date on which pharmacists will also have the right to prescribe vaccines.

Pharmacists under pressure

If this measure makes it possible to free up general practitioners, it does however add an additional task to be carried out by pharmacists, who are not all organized to allow vaccinations.

"It's still a big challenge to take up," said Louis Bosson, pharmacist in Montélimar and president of the CPTS (Community professional territorial health Porte de Provence).

According to him, pharmacists are increasingly called upon for acts of a medical nature, such as for vaccination against the flu, or screening for Covid and colorectal cancer.

So many additional missions that pharmacists could now have to accomplish while the situation would also be under tension in pharmacies.

“Even in pharmacies, it is difficult to recruit.

We know that many pharmacies in France are understaffed and all pharmacies, for sure, will not be able to embark on this new mission, ”described Louis Bosson to France Bleu.
