Forever the first.

This Monday, the company Naval Group had released the big game for the presentation of its new generation frigate in Lorient (Morbihan).

Under the eyes of the Minister of the Armed Forces Sébastien Lecornu and the Greek Minister of Defense Nikos Panagiotopoulos, who placed an order for three copies, the one called "Admiral Ronarc'h" landed its 4,500 tons on the water of the port of Lorient .

The defense and intervention frigate (FDI) should constitute the spearhead of the French combat fleet with the eight multi-mission frigates (Fremm) already in service.

The French Navy has already ordered five.

The first sea trials should take place in 2023 for entry into service scheduled for 2024, said Naval Group CEO Pierre-Eric Pommellet.

The four other frigates for France will be delivered between 2026 and the end of 2029. The three Greek units, which will have the particularity of being able to fire 32 Aster 30 anti-aircraft missiles, will be delivered by 2025. “Unfortunately these frigates will be used, because the sea becomes a space of competition, a space of confrontation”, estimated the Minister of the Armed Forces Sébastien Lecornu.

The one also called Belharra (its name for export) can accommodate up to 150 people.

It will be able to embark a helicopter and an aerial drone as well as commandos with their light boats.

In addition to anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare, it must be particularly effective in anti-aircraft warfare with its Sea Fire plate radar.

Unlike traditional rotating radar, it provides constant 360° vision, reducing the reaction to a machine flying at very high speed.
