With the "preliminary mothball" (introductory race), the fourth edition of the camel heritage marathon for foreigners, organized by the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Heritage Revival Center, was launched at the Dubai Camel Racing Club in Al Marmoom.

The race, which extended for a distance of 1,500 meters, witnessed the participation of 22 contestants residing in the UAE, who were trained by the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Heritage Center, during the past months, in the skills of riding camel, or who had participated in the past years in the heritage camel journey, and they are from 15 different nationalities: Germany, Jordan, China, Saudi Arabia, France, Estonia, America, Czech, Russia, Brazil, Iran, Yemen, Italy, Belgium and Luxembourg.

In terms of the results achieved in the preliminary race, which was organized last Friday, the German Emilia Bisker (14 years old), who called herself “Kindergarten”, managed to achieve first place with a time of 1.55.78, followed by the Jordanian Rawan by a small difference with a time of 1.55 81, and the third place went to China's Alexis with a time of 1.58.75.

A successful partnershipThe CEO of the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Center for Heritage Revival, Abdullah Hamdan Bin Dalmouk, who witnessed the race and crowned the first winners, stressed: “The establishment of this type of race translates the successful partnership between the center and the Dubai Camel Racing Club, as we continue to organize this type of race for the year. The eighth for citizens and foreigners,” adding: “This partnership achieves its goals, as we work together to provide things that benefit the community according to the same vision and umbrella, which is the Dubai government, and there will be more joint work, as we are currently building the heritage village in the club, along with Other races that will be organized during the current season.

French presence

The race witnessed a large crowd, especially members of the French Community Club in Dubai, who came to support the French Audi, which is participating in the camel journey for the first time this year.

Audi explained: "I participated in the race because of my parents, who prepared a documentary on TV in France about the camel journey last year, which concluded its journey at the headquarters of (Expo Dubai 2020), to tell me of applying to participate in this unique journey of its kind in the world."

While Laurent Rego (from the French Community Club) said: "We all came to support our compatriot Audi, and to get acquainted with this kind of camel racing, and none of us wanted to miss the opportunity, even our friend Isabel came in a wheelchair because of her illness."

He continued: "The UAE is a wonderful country for life, getting to know this aspect of heritage, and living these wonderful rituals closely in camel races, as well as mixing with other and diverse cultures here."

The mother is proud of her daughter

The mother of first-place winner, Pauline Bisker, expressed her happiness and pride in her daughter Amelia's (Rawdah) victory.

She said, "Our participation last year in the camel journey gave us a lot of skills to deal with camels, and to participate in this kind of race. It is very wonderful and different and the feeling is indescribable."

And she continued, "I work as a teacher, and it must be admitted that participating in this kind of heritage activities shows you a side that you did not expect at all in Dubai."
