  • Today, "Les Dazzled" by Aylin Manço published on October 5, 2022 by Sarbacane Editions.

Anne-So "Echos de Mots", blogger, bookstagramer and contributor to the 20 Minutes Books reading group, recommends

Les Dazzled

by Aylin Manço, published on October 5, 2022 by Sarbacane Editions.

His favorite quote:

How do you draw a look?

Should a line be drawn that connects the viewer to the one being viewed?

Or, should we consider the gaze as a projector, a spot, and only draw the way it illuminates the one on whom it is focused?

There were three important looks at Jamet's canteen that day.

One: Luce's about her new comrades.

Two: that of Alex on Luce.

Three... Three?

The third would come later.

Why this book?

  • Because after the disconcerting and unforgettable

    Ogresse

    , Aylin Manço

returns with a new gem of young adult literature:

    Les Dazzled

    .

In this novel, we follow a group of friends evolving in the boarding school of their college-high school Jamet.

Already busy discovering themselves, their loves, their bodies and their relationships, the interns will develop amazing gifts one by one.

If they are initially excited by the arrival of these powers, things will gradually degenerate.

  • Because in addition to these young heroes in the era of time,

we follow the story of Gus in dotted lines.

With great accuracy and a very colorful pen, the author gives us what seems to be the touching first emotions of a boy who falls madly in love, in the blink of an eye, with a young girl he knows nothing about.

Gradually, the thread of his story unfolds to reveal a dark and disturbing truth.

  • Because

    Les Dazzled

stands out and shakes up the codes.

If the basic plot may look like many teen books, it is not.

Once again, the author surprises and stands out with her incredibly incisive pen and her sometimes luminous universe thanks to whole, fiery and full of life adolescent heroes, sometimes deliciously macabre.

She mixes romance and horror, sex and introspection, pain and hope... and fascinates her reader as much as she upsets him.

  • Because

    Les Dazzled

is one of those novels that move the guts

and etch themselves forever in the mind of a reader.

The author pulls out of the game by offering us a literary UFO with fantastic accents without taboos and without filters, populated by heroes who explore their sexuality, the power of their friendship and the devastation of loneliness.

If the writing may seem crude, it above all allows for a narration that is as sensitive as it is authentic.

In short, 381 pages of a work carried out by a master's hand: disconcerting, bewitching and quite simply brilliant.
