A demonstration experiment for medical care that combines cutting-edge technology, such as measuring blood pressure and heart rate on the way to the hospital in an autonomous car and sharing it with the hospital, has begun in Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture.

The experiment began on the 4th at the Shonan Health Innovation Park, where medical research is conducted, by major trading companies and hospitals.

Citizens are participating in various demonstration experiments that combine cutting-edge technology to get them to think about future technology and medicine.

Among these, the demonstration experiment using self-driving technology and Internet cloud services aims to measure patient data on the way from home to the hospital in an self-driving car and quickly share it with the hospital.

Citizens who participated got into a car without a driver's seat or a steering wheel and measured their blood pressure and heart rate with a dedicated device while driving for 10 minutes at about 20 kilometers per hour.

The measured data is sent to the hospital immediately via the cloud before the patient arrives, which is expected to lead to more efficient and faster medical examinations.

A man in his 70s who participated in the experiment said, "I thought it would be convenient if medical examinations could be done in the car."

Shingo Soga, general manager of Mitsubishi Corporation's Urban Development Division, said, "We would like to receive opinions from citizens and use them to develop new services."
