Last October, Asian hornets wreaked havoc in Seine-et-Marne, in particular because of the mild temperatures.

Two beekeepers lost around three million bees in the space of a few days, or half of their apiaries installed in Lagny-sur-Marne and Coupvray.

"It's more than 10 years of work wiped out in less than a month", testified Rémi and Nicolas Martin, leaders of Abeilles et Miel, on their Facebook page.

They cut off the bees' heads

“Once the hornets are inside, they eat everything.

Honey, wax… For the bees, they cut off their heads and bring back their abdomens to feed their larvae”, described Rémi Martin in La Marne.

To protect their hives, the beekeepers had installed traps but that was not enough.

They are counting on the vigilance of locals to identify and report Asian hornet nests so that they are destroyed.

To relaunch their activity, the two brothers have launched an online kitty.

They hope to raise 30,000 euros.
