A student in the fourth year of a Franco-German double degree at Sciences Po, Maëlle is exhausted.

The 20-year-old woman released a video on TikTok on Tuesday in which she opens up about her great financial difficulties.

In tears, the student from Reunion explains how her situation has deteriorated over the years, reports

.

She received 900 euros the first year thanks to various aids, an “ideal” sum to pay her rent and her shopping.

But from the second year, the Crous halved its scholarship, the student's father having found a job two years earlier.

" I didn't understand "

Struggling, Maëlle was forced to work during confinement in 2020 before finding a 20-hour-a-week job as a babysitter in her third year.

Before her fourth year, the student learns that her scholarship will drop to 100 euros per month.

“I did not understand: my father is unemployed and my mother does not have more means”, confides the young woman in her video.

For the Crous, the decision is justified by the fact that his parents, who moved to Mayotte, benefit from a financial contribution and the "quality price" shield on the territory.

An incredible helping hand

The video quickly went viral and has been viewed over 8.5 million times on TikTok.

A user launched an online pot to help Maëlle, and quickly raised 14,000 euros.

“I find it hard to believe, I know it will make my daily life incredibly easier,” said the student.

It was she who asked her benefactress to close the kitty when she saw that it had reached 2,000 euros in just a few hours.

Part of the 14,000 euros will be donated to an association helping precarious students.

Since then, Maëlle has reopened a kitty herself, the profits of which will go entirely to a similar association.
