The "Japan Prize" is an international competition for programs and video works on the theme of education sponsored by NHK.In its 49th year, 353 works and projects were submitted from 57 countries and regions.



At the award ceremony held on the evening of the 4th, Princess Noriko said, "For both children and adults, it is important for children and adults to come into contact with works created from new perspectives in order to understand various issues and build a better society together. That's what it is."



Next, the award-winning works were announced, and the "Grand Prix Japan Award" given to the most excellent work was selected by the Canadian production company "Tobo Media"'s animated film "Dunia and the Princess of Aleppo".



This work tells the story of Dunya, a 6-year-old girl who was driven out of her home country of Syria during the civil war and became a refugee, traveling the world.



Based on interviews with Syrian refugee children, the work was praised for its combination of real-life experiences and fantasy, and the work that conveys nostalgia and hope for the homeland.
