Four streets in the hypercentre of Rodez (Aveyron) have, since Tuesday, been subject to special regulations in terms of authorized traffic speed.

It is indeed forbidden to drive there at more than 20 km / h, reports France 3 Occitanie.

This is the application of a decision voted by the municipal council on September 30th.

The rest of the lanes remain limited to 30 km/h.

The municipal team explained that the verbalization of offenders is planned.

She nevertheless mentioned a tolerance period of a few days to allow motorists to get used to the new rule.

Christian Teyssèdre, LREM mayor of Rodez, put forward a need to "reduce the number of accidents" to justify the measure.

He expressed his desire to favor the tranquility of the inhabitants.

"We must create safe spaces for users, motorists but also pedestrians or cyclists," he added.

Signs indicating the speed not to be exceeded in the areas concerned are being installed.
