• A photo of a very sparsely filled sandwich was released by a student union at Rennes-2 University.

  • The Pirate Union wishes to denounce the portions served in the Crous university restaurants.

  • The public institution has to deal with a surge in the prices of certain food products.

A piece of bread, a few chicken crumbs, a little salad and a dash of mayonnaise.

The photo of a sandwich from the Crous de Rennes broadcast by the Union Pirate caused a reaction on the social networks of the student union.

The message alerts both the management of Crous Bretagne, but also the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron with these clear words: “We are hungry.

This is not the first time that the student union has criticized the Crous.

Since the start of the school year, many testimonials have tarnished the image of university restaurants in Rennes: increasingly limited quantities, declining quality and a sometimes interminable wait that forces many students to find other solutions.

Close to Nupes, the majority union at Rennes-2 University has taken up the subject and regularly publishes messages denouncing the situation.

On October 25, members of the union were invited to the Crous board of directors to make their voices heard.

@CrousBretagne's contempt for students...

Despite the increasing complaints, the director still assured us yesterday of the good quality and quantity of the dishes served... Today this gang of liars has gone to rationing potatoes in the UK.

Offered at 3.30 euros (1 euro for scholarship holders), the Crous meal has been weakened by inflation.

In a hidden camera report made for its 20 Hours in Rennes, the France 2 channel confirmed the drop in rations.

The Crous Bretagne, once renowned for the quality of its service, tried to respond through the voice of its director, explaining "to respect a regulatory weight, corresponding to the caloric expenditure of a young adult".

In a press release issued in September, the management explained that production costs had "sharply increased to reach nearly eight euros per meal" and regretted "the supply difficulties or the increases in the price of foodstuffs".

Before specifying that the social tariff has known “only an increase of 5 cents in six years”.

It was in 2019.
