On Halloween evening, 13 people were injured when a group was shot in the American metropolis of Chicago.

A dark-colored SUV had driven past the small gathering at around 9:30 p.m.

The occupants of the car then opened fire.

The police initially spoke of 14 people who had been injured by gunfire, but corrected this number to 13 on Tuesday morning. Another person was said to have been hit by the car while trying to escape.

Three children aged 3, 11 and 13 were among the victims, American media reported on Tuesday night, citing the Chicago police.

The injured were taken to various hospitals.

Some of them were in mortal danger, it said.

At first little was known about the fact.

Around 9 p.m., people - some in Halloween costumes - met on a street corner, police reported to the Chicago Sun Times newspaper.

The act then happened within a few seconds.

After looking at surveillance camera footage, the police assumed that there were at least two shooters.

Nothing is known about their motives.
