Monsters of Verity - Volume 1 This Savage song

by VE Schwab, published on October 13, 2022 by Éditions Lumen.

His favorite quote:

"Good" and "bad" were not strong enough words.

Monsters didn't care about intentions and ideals.

Why this book?

  • Because VE Schwab takes us on a thrilling

    young adult dystopia.

A world where the violence of men has spawned monsters.

Three kinds of monsters, Corsai, Malchai and Sunai.

From least strong to strongest, according to the violence which gave birth to them.

  • Because the bad guys aren't always who you think they are.

The author plays with the notion of good and evil brilliantly.

Monsters aren't all the bad guys in the story, just like humans can be worse than monsters.

A book that makes you think about what violence can cause in our world.

  • Because the heroes are very well built.

Opposed to each other, they do not come from the same world at all.

The daughter of Harker, the one who only protects people for money, who is a monster-like human.

And Auguste who lives in the Sub district, protected by Flynn and his special forces who watch over the population, the pure-hearted monster.

  • Because music is very present in the story,

it can kill as well as relieve pain.

I liked this omnipresent presence, a touch of sweetness, of poetry in the darkness.

The essentials in 2 minutes

The plot.

A city populated by monsters that were born from human violence.

A city divided in two following a war.

For the moment in truce, but Auguste will be sent to monitor Kate's return to thwart the possible end of this truce.

Characters.

Kate, daughter of the leader Harker who has control of the northern district, returns to town.

She is sent to Colton to study.

Auguste, young Sunai, son of Flynn who takes care of the southern district is sent there to watch her.

All oppose them and yet, they will have to ally.

Places.

V-Ciry capital of Verity, city of a dystopian world.

Divided into two districts, in the North, you have to pay for your security, but you don't see that the world is invaded by monsters, life is peaceful there.

On the south side, the inhabitants are protected by special forces.

But life is tougher there.

The time.

Undoubtedly our time, it is not really specified.

The author.

VE Schwab is an American fantasy author.

This book was read with

chills and reflections.

Finally, it is the violence of humans that gives birth to watches.

Even though it's a dystopia, we can easily imagine ourselves in this book, especially with the violence that currently reigns in our world.
