The Sharjah Book Authority revealed, the day before yesterday, the winners of the first edition of the Sharjah Prize for Copyright, during the activities of the second day of the 12th edition of the Publishers Conference, which is organized prior to the launch of the Sharjah International Book Fair 2022, which begins today.

The award for “independent professionals working with agencies specialized in selling book rights to publishers and licensors” was won by Mauro Spagnol from the British agency “Box-everyware”, while the award for “experts in the buying and selling of translation rights in publishing houses” was won by Gabriel Nieto. The first edition of the award witnessed submissions from 14 countries, of which six candidates were shortlisted, which was announced on the sidelines of the authority's participation in the activities of the 74th edition of the Frankfurt International Book Fair in Germany last October.

The Chairman of the Sharjah Book Authority, Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, honored the winners of the first edition of the award, which celebrates the pioneering achievements and contributions of workers in the copyright sector, and their essential role in enriching and upgrading it, in addition to supporting them and providing them with an opportunity to promote and develop their companies, in the presence of the short-listed candidates for the award And a group of leading publishers and publishing industry experts from the UAE and the world.

Mauro Spagnol received the award in recognition of his proactive pioneering efforts, his passion and specialized knowledge of all aspects of the publishing sector and markets, his in-depth understanding of the needs of dealers, and his talent for attracting their attention in a professional manner, through communication with complete reliability and transparency.

Mansour Al-Hassani, Director of the Publishers Services Department at the authority, said: "In the authority, we are pleased to shed light on the pivotal role that workers in the publishing sector, including writers, publishers, distributors, and book stakeholders, play in the publishing industry."
