Study: One employee for every 40 Egyptian citizens in 2030

The Egyptian Center for Thought and Strategic Studies issued a recent study that reviewed the proportion of government employees to the total population over the years.

According to the study, in 1966 the number of employees represented 3.2% of the total population in Egypt, meaning that one employee provides services to about 31 Egyptian citizens.

Then the period from 1978-2000 witnessed a sharp increase in the number of government employees, bringing their ratio to the total population of "4.4-8.0%", meaning that one employee served only 23 citizens in 1978, and the rate increased to only 13 Egyptian citizens for each government employee in year 2000.

In the period 2006-2010, the ratio became between 7.8 - 7.2%, with one employee serving between 13-14 Egyptian citizens.

Then the gradual decline in these rates began since 2016, when the percentage of employees to the total population reached 6.4%, and then in 2017, the percentage reached 5.5%, whereby the employee provides services to 18 Egyptian citizens.

Egypt aims to reach by 2030 an average of one employee for every 40 Egyptian citizens, according to the sustainable development strategy "Egypt Vision 2030".
