A wolf was shot by a pair of wolf-hunting lieutenants on Wednesday evening in Frasne (Doubs), as part of a "defense shot" provided for by law, the prefecture announced on Thursday.
The shooting was triggered Wednesday around 8:30 p.m. when the wolf "was observed in a situation of attack on the herd" of a breeder "on a plot where a herd had been predated on the night of October 24 to 25", indicates the prefecture in a press release.
This defensive firing had been authorized by the prefect of Doubs Jean-François Colombet by an order taken after the previous predation and it "is therefore perfectly compliant" with the provisions of the ministerial order of October 23, 2020, according to the same source.
She-wolf shot at the end of September
At the end of September, a wolf had already been killed as part of a defensive fire in the Doubs, in Longevilles-Mont-d'Or, a town near the border with Switzerland, about twenty km south-east of Frasne.
