Whooper swans fly to Lake Furen in Nemuro City, Hokkaido, which is known as a stopping point for migratory birds, heralding the arrival of winter.

Lake Furen and Lake Onne in Nemuro City, which stretches along the Nemuro Strait, is one of the largest migratory grounds for whooper swans in Japan.

According to the Shunkunitai Nature Center, the number of eels has gradually increased since the first flight on the 9th of this month.

This year, many families with gray-bodied juveniles can be seen.

About 2,000 birds, which will peak in the middle of next month, will fly over to Honshu by mid-December.

Asuka Okubo, a ranger at the Shunkunitai Nature Center, said, "It's so beautiful that you can see it flying in the morning and at night, so I'd like many people to see it."

At the Shunkunitai Nature Center, we are planning to hold an observation event for migratory birds such as whooper swans on the 30th of this month.
