Tim Burton no longer intends to work with Disney.

The filmmaker began his career as an artist for Mickey's House, and he recently fulfilled a childhood dream directing

Dumbo

, the live-action adaptation of the animated classic.

However, it is now out of the question for him to resume work with the studio, which has changed a lot since its beginnings.

“It has become very homogeneous.

There is less room to do different things.

I can only take care of one universe, I cannot take care of a multi-universe, ”he said during the Lumière Festival, as relayed by Deadline.

Disney's new policy intends to focus its projects on three axes: Marvel Studios, Pixar, and the

Star Wars

franchise .

Difficult, therefore, for an unclassifiable artist like Tim Burton, to find a place.

Escape

The filmmaker also believes that it is a good thing for him and his career that he managed to make the decision to leave Disney permanently.

“My story is that I started there.

I was hired and fired several times during my career there.

But I realized that I was Dumbo, that I worked in this horrible big circus and that I needed to escape.

This movie is quite autobiographical on some level,” he explained.

Tim Burton, independent director?

Not necessarily, because it would be difficult to break out of his habits as a studio director.

“Here's the thing: independent films, I don't know how to do.

I've only worked with studios, so I never really understood what independent film was,” the

Nightmare Before Christmas

filmmaker added .
