Towards a new record month in terms of temperatures?

After the hottest May on record, October is on the same path.

According to Christophe Cassou, climatologist and research director at the CNRS, it's done.

"It is now established (barring a massive error in the forecast for this week, which is virtually impossible considering the high predictability) that this month of October 2022 will be the hottest month recorded in France", he warns on Twitter.

Météo-France is indeed forecasting particularly mild temperatures for the last week of October with peaks reaching 27 degrees in Biarritz or Tarbes at the end of the week.

“With the new episode of late heat culminating on Thursday, there is now no longer any doubt that this month of October 2022 will be the hottest observed in France, far ahead of October 2001. The total monthly anomaly should be around +3 .5°C”, estimates for his part Gaétan Heymes, forecasting engineer and snow scientist at Météo-France.

If the temperatures show abnormal levels for a month of October during the day, the nights are also exceptionally mild.

“The anomalies are very strong for night temperatures, adds Christophe Cassou.

On average in France, the minimum temperatures forecast at the end of the night will correspond to the normal maximum temperatures at the end of the day.
