The town hall of Moulins (Allier) is fed up with badly discarded cigarette butts and the pollution they generate.

It therefore launched an awareness campaign while proposing a recycling solution.

Called "Recycl'ton mégot", the program consisted in particular of installing new collectors in order to dispose of cigarettes, explains

La Montagne

.

Since 2020, the City had, little by little, set up 35 containers for recycling cigarette butts.

This summer, new receptacles have appeared in key places such as the banks of the Allier and around barbecue, picnic or petanque sites.

With "Recycl'ton mégot", Moulins aims to reduce by 35% the quantity of cigarettes discarded without precautions.

A collection service within companies, administrations and restaurants has also been created.

It works by reservation and allows municipal officials to come to the site to collect cigarette butts for recycling.

A poorly discarded cigarette can pollute up to 50 liters of water and takes 12 years to degrade in the natural environment.
