According to Reuters, on October 19, local time, the British Conservative government won a key vote proposed by the Labour Party to ban hydraulic fracturing technology.

But at the same time, many British media reported that the voting site was in chaos for a time.

Lawmakers reportedly voted 326 to 230 against introducing a fracking ban.

The vote was previously seen by the Conservatives as a "vote of confidence".

Opposition MPs said some Conservative MPs had been "roughly treated" and forced to vote for the government, Reuters reported.

But some Conservative MPs denied the news.

The British Sky News reported in a report that the scene in the voting hall was very chaotic for a time, with Labour MPs saying that there was a "large-scale quarrel", and some people said they witnessed the "screaming" of the Conservative Party whip.

The British "Guardian" reported that the Labour Party urged the deputy speaker to investigate the matter, and a Conservative MP called the chaos in parliament "unforgivable" and "absolute disgrace".

Fracking is controversial because the technology drills into the ground to recover oil and gas from shale.

Fracking was halted in 2019 after opposition from environmentalists and local concerns that the technology could trigger earthquakes.

With energy prices rising, the Truss-led government has backed fracking as a way to boost the UK's domestic gas supply.
