Historian Youssef Fadl Hassan, the cultural personality of the year in “Sharjah Book”

The Sharjah Book Authority announced the selection of Sudanese Professor Youssef Fadl Hassan as the cultural personality of the year for the activities of the 41st session of the Sharjah International Book Fair, in appreciation of his great contributions in the political, cultural and scientific history and documentation of Sudan, in addition to his tangible efforts in promoting the research and documentation movement in the African and Asian continents. He has published more than 30 books between authorship, investigation and editing.

The selection of Professor Youssef Fadl Hassan comes within the vision of the exhibition, which aims to honor the distinguished figures of thought, literature, history and minds that shaped their cognitive efforts, in addition to the Arab book treasury in various fields.

The head of the Sharjah Book Authority, Ahmed bin Rakkad Al-Amiri, said: “Sudan has always been a generous country with the minds of its children, and the history of Arab culture bears witness to great Sudanese figures who have had a lot of credit for enriching the Arab library, from thinkers, researchers, novelists, writers and poets, and what was the choice of Professor Youssef? He preferred to be the cultural personality of the year, but an honor for the efforts he made during a tender process that spanned more than 60 years of continuous work in history, research, investigation and studies, which the African and Asian continents as a whole testify.

It is noteworthy that Professor Youssef Fadl Hassan, born in the town of Mahmia in Sudan in 1932, obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Arts in the University of Khartoum in 1956, and from the University of London, a Bachelor’s degree with honors in history in 1959, and a doctorate in Arab history in 1964, and worked as a lecturer in History, Department of History, University of Khartoum.

He took over the management of the Institute of African and Asian Studies (1972-1983), and became director of Omdurman Islamic University in (1983-1984), after which he became director of the University of Khartoum since 1985 - 1991, and headed the editor-in-chief of "Sudan Magazine in Letters and Blogs", where he issued more than From 20 issues, he also founded the Journal of Sudanese Studies, and has published more than 30 books between authorship, investigation and editing.
