Under the slogan “Culture is a way of life”, the activities of the fifth edition of the cultural summit organized by the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi will be launched tomorrow morning, Sunday, at Manarat Al Saadiyat, with the participation of heads of state and more than 180 of the most prominent leaders working in the fields of art, culture and politics. and media.

The summit, in its new session, focuses on getting out of the traditional and reductive concept of culture, and opening up more to the field of creative and cultural industries, and the broader cultural sectors in the world today.

The participants in the summit sessions also sought to present the challenges facing this field and its workers, especially after the “Covid-19” pandemic, and its effects on various fields in all countries of the world.

The summit agenda addresses the concept of embracing culture as a living experience in a world that has undergone the radical transformations imposed by the “Covid-19” pandemic, and a better understanding of the broad impact of culture on our individual and collective lives.

"Living Cultural Systems"

The summit provides the opportunity for those interested in the cultural issue in its broadest sense, to learn about different experiences and experiences through a variety of keynotes, dialogue sessions, lectures, presentations and discussions, and the experiences of participants from cultural leaders, artists, decision makers, researchers, thinkers, educators and creators to study these pressing contemporary issues.

The agenda of the summit was organized so that each day included a study of one of the topics in more detail.

On its first day, the summit will address the theme of “living cultural systems” from the perspective of sectors, as it discusses the emergence of live cultural and creative systems that are more flexible, adaptable and responsive to changes.

The event on that day witnesses the participation of three former heads of state, they are:

Dalia Grybuskaitou, President of Lithuania (2009-2019), Ivo Josipovic, President of Croatia (2010-2015), and Joyce Banda, President of Malawi (2012-2014), in a session moderated by Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, Cultural Advisor to the President of the State, to explore the role of culture in building societies Flexible and shared.

The second day of the event focuses on the theme of “Cultural Life” and how culture affects individuals and societies through the prism of changing patterns of cultural participation.

This axis shows how the cultural and creative industries sector was forced to innovate in order to be able to face the major disruptions caused by the pandemic, as access to these digital cultural products and services has become a social and psychological lifeline and part of the daily routine and experiences of people, especially during periods of closure.

The sessions will begin with a keynote speech by Minister of Culture and Youth Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, and summit participants will be invited in particular to explore the role of artificial intelligence in the future of culture through panel discussions and case studies from a number of high-tech companies such as TeamLab, in addition to an exceptional creative dialogue between Tim Marlowe, CEO and Director of the Design Museum in London, and IDA, the world's first super-realistic, humanoid artist robot.

In an interview with Jimmy Jam, Panos A. Banai, Co-President of the Recording Academy, will explore the relationship between “technology, creativity, and the changing face of pop culture,” followed by a keynote address from acclaimed architect Eyal Wiseman.

You will be immersed in the vibrant cultural landscape of Afghanistan to be explored through a panel discussion.

The day concludes with a panel discussion moderated by the Guggenheim Museum.

While the third theme, entitled “Culture, Diversity and Influence,” focuses on the important challenges related to protecting and promoting the diversity of cultural expression and how policies and enabling structures that are implemented can support in a sustainable way the process of expressing and preserving this diversity.

The idea of ​​diversity will also be explored in a panel discussion organized by Berkeley Abu Dhabi on 'Integrating Cultural Diversity through Music'.

The performing arts, in their various forms, occupy a wide area within the cultural summit program, witnessing the participation of a group of prominent artists on the Arab and international arena, with a focus on works and performances that reflect the national and human identity of their societies. From the classic songs of some of the greatest artists such as Dalida, Edith Piaf and Mercedes Sosa.

While French hip-hop dancer and choreographer Kader Atto will perform on the second day of the Abu Dhabi Cultural Summit, entitled "Roots".

The second day will also witness a solo performance by the Iraqi artist and oud player Naseer Shamma.

Hearing the Sufi

The artist Fahima Mirzai, who is the first and only woman in Afghanistan to perform the Mawlawi Dervishes dance, which is part of the Sufi "Sama" celebration, will participate in the artistic activities of the cultural summit.

Fahima will present the show “Sama”, which is a spiritual performance of the Sufi dervishes on the method founded and laid down by the great poet and mystic Jalal al-Din al-Rumi, which Fahima was inspired by his dance of revolving around the soul and meditation.

From the world of jazz;

Musicians Yarub Smeirat and Samvil Gasparian are participating, who are part of the "Quartet Ya'rub Smeirat" ensemble, which presents world music in general and traditional Arabic music in particular, and some original pieces composed by Ya'rob, accompanied by a touch of classical and jazz.

The program will witness the closing performance of the Global Jazz Project, a multicultural music project by Grammy Award-winning artist Danilo Perez, with the participation of musician Charbel Rouhana.

The cultural summit paid wide attention to the local performing arts. The program includes performances of a number of traditional arts that are associated with different environments and professions in the Emirates, including the art of "Al Madima", which is a traditional folk art practiced by marine communities in the UAE and the region.
