A person who attended the Aloha aquatic center in Montélimar (Drôme) was recently hospitalized after being contaminated with legionella bacteria.

Pool water was quickly identified as a potential cause of the contamination.

The establishment was closed for a week, at the end of September, to allow analyses;

The results showed the presence of the bacteria in the water.

The bather or bather suffering from legionellosis was seriously affected by the infection, said the mayor LR of Montélimar Julien Cornillet.

The person was however able to leave the hospital, his state of health having improved.

The elected official pointed out the difficulties encountered in the treatment of water at the Aloha aquatic center due to the pipes.

“They date from 1968 and are underground,” he explained.

For these reasons, the city councilor plans to build a brand new swimming pool, estimating that the cost of construction would quickly pay for itself compared to the operating deficit of the current site.
