On October 12, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning hosted a regular press conference.

A reporter asked: According to reports, German Chancellor Scholz recently expressed his support for globalization, saying that "decoupling" is a completely wrong path, and Germany must conduct trade with many countries, including China.

The Executive Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of economic affairs also believes that "decoupling" with China is not an option for EU companies. The EU-China trade relationship needs more balance and reciprocity, and the EU should continue to engage with China in a pragmatic manner.

What is China's comment?

Mao Ning said China also supports globalization and opposes "decoupling".

Against the background of the current sluggish world economic situation, adhering to openness and cooperation and enhancing economic and trade ties will not only benefit China and the EU, but also help the recovery of the world economy.

Mao Ning said that China and the EU are each other's important economic and trade partners, and the cooperation between the two sides is mutually beneficial and win-win.

Last year, the trade volume between China and the EU exceeded 800 billion US dollars for the first time, and the cumulative scale of two-way investment exceeded 270 billion US dollars.

From January to August this year, the total trade volume between China and the EU was US$575.22 billion, a year-on-year increase of 8.8%.

The EU invested US$7.45 billion in China, a year-on-year increase of 121.5%.

The economic, trade and investment cooperation between China and Europe has provided a positive boost to the development of both sides.

Mao Ning said that China-EU cooperation is rooted in a solid foundation of public opinion, broad common interests, and similar strategic demands, and has strong resilience and potential.

The Chinese side is willing to work with the European side to push for greater development of bilateral cooperation in various fields and bring more benefits to the people of both sides.
