Under the title "Plowing Season", "Exhibition 421" launched its program for the fall of 2022, which focuses on research in the production of knowledge, and emphasizes in its details that the exhibition's production is not limited to a specific form or source, as everything that surrounds us is a source of knowledge, and nature has always represented Here is the most important source, before the control of modern technologies and manifestations of consumption, which produced many barriers between man and nature on the one hand, and between him and the other on the other hand, and these are the barriers that “Exhibition 421” seeks to demolish this season, to motivate the public to communicate again with nature. as the first teacher.

In the details, the group exhibition “Search and harvest: nutritional knowledge and environmental perception in the Emirati geographic nature” was recently opened in Abu Dhabi, which is the second edition of the exhibition, which was held for the first time at the UAE pavilion at “Expo 2020”.

The exhibition explores the subtle elements of what it means to constantly seek food and care for the individual and the group in seemingly barren environments, exploring the long, multifaceted history of an environment that for a long time has been producing food for successive generations and providing food for its own and other peoples.

The exhibition reveals the effort exerted to reap the bounties of the earth through the confluence of personal and collective narratives. It also highlights the rich stock of cultural and agricultural knowledge that has been passed down through generations, and on which it is still built up to this day, explaining what it means to supply food on several levels.

Artists and Business

The exhibition includes works by 14 artists from the UAE, the Arab world and the world, they are: Auguste Nomicite, Elaine Vasquez, Paula Saqr, Reem Falaknaz, Sheikha Al-Mazrou, Ammar Al-Attar, Abdullah Al-Saadi, Abeer Manasiriya, Zina Khayat, Vikram Divesha , Tariq Al-Ghussein, Moza Al-Matrooshi, Muhammad Ahmed Ibrahim, Nujoom Al-Ghanim, Nahla Al-Tabbaa.

Artists of different nationalities and art schools seek to shed light on multiple concepts related to food and harvest and the related repercussions that have left their impact on the life of the individual and society, among them a work by the late artist Tariq Al-Ghussein consisting of a series of photographs taken by the artist of the windshield of buses that were standing in a square on the Corniche. Abu Dhabi, then asked the writer Deepak how he felt about the pictures, who in turn wrote down ideas related to the bus from his personal thoughts or from the culture of his people.

While the participation of the artist Abdullah Al-Saadi was entitled "Sweet Potato", and it included a set of charcoal drawings of the fruits of sweet potatoes in different shapes and formations, which he drew during his camping trips in earlier times.

The work of "Grill" by the artist Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim reflected the close relationship between the artist and the land, which appeared in most of his works.

"Let me get you something"

From a note in the form of a paper message the guard left on his windshield warning him that he parked his car in the wrong place, and messages he never sent to his second-grade teacher, who tried to get him to write with the right hand, or a set of emails in which he tried to recover his belongings After he lost it in a European bus, and after months of no result, Emirati artist Mohammed Khaled was inspired by his first solo exhibition "Let me take you something", which also opened within "Exhibition 421", and its program for the fall of 2022.

In his exhibition, Khaled dealt with the idea of searching for communication, and trying the factors that contribute to the success of communication, regardless of the method used in the message, whether handwriting, social media algorithms, or just paper clips. For architecture, where he sees the buildings around him as full of opportunities for communication, which applies to scenes that may actually pass by many without paying attention to them, such as the cats that are found on the street and embodied by the artist in his works, the uniform of the employees of a delivery company, and others.

Khaled also shows the inability of modern technologies to accurately translate what we see.

■ “Let me pick you up something” pays attention to the cats on the street, and shows the impotence of modern technologies.

■ The exhibition seeks to restore the relationship between man and nature as the first teacher.
