Sydney Sweeney will star in

Barbarella

, Sony Picture's plan to breathe new life into the comic book heroine.

The actress confirmed the information by sharing on her Instagram account the

Variety

article announcing her presence at the casting.

She also added an image of the character representing Jane Fonda, who played the heroine in Roger Vadim's 1968 cult film. Sydney Sweeney's comment leaves little room for doubt.

"It's time to save the universe," wrote the young actress.

Solid value from Sony Picture

The project, which is based on the cartoon character created by Jean-Claude Forest in 1962, is still in development.

No name of writer, director or even producer has been mentioned yet.

This is, in any case, not the first foray of Sydney Sweeney in the adaptation of a comic strip.

She will indeed show her talent in that of the Marvel

Madame Web

comics , from the Spider-Man universe, alongside Dakota Johnson, produced by Sony Pictures and directed by SJ Clarkson.

The company has also acquired the rights to the adaptation of Madison Lawson's eponymous thriller,

The Registration

.

Sydney Sweeney, who triumphed in the series

Euphoria

and

The White Lotus

and was nominated for an Emmy for her performances, will star in this film produced by Brad Fuller.
