A shoplifter with a weakness for nut chocolates has chosen an unsuitable hiding place in Cologne after a heist.

The 27-year-old initially put 25 packs of nut chocolates in a large plastic bag in a supermarket and left the store without paying, the police said on Wednesday.

The man then hid between two parked cars and crouched down.

However, one of the cars was an unmarked car belonging to the Police Traffic Task Force.

Two officers were in the car.

The theft had not previously been noticed in the supermarket, but the officers were suspicious of the man's behavior and the mass of chocolates.

In addition, the 27-year-old could not show a receipt.

Video footage from the nearby shop ultimately convicted him.
