GROUP A

SSC Napoli (Italy) – Ajax Amsterdam (Netherlands) 4-2

Crazy evening in Naples, especially for the Italian club, even if its Cameroonian midfielder André-Frank Zambo Anguissa – solid, until then – left at the start of the period, visibly injured.

In the process, Victor Osimhen made his comeback with Naples after more than a month of absence.

After a goal (logically) disallowed for offside, the center-forward found the fault by stealing the ball from the opposing feet and scoring in the empty cage for the 4-2.

Overjoyed, the Nigerian took off his jersey and the protective mask he usually wears and ran towards some adoring Neapolitan fans.

In the Ajaccio ranks, the satisfaction came from the Nigerian side Calvin Bassey who put the ball on the head of Davy Klaassen for the 2-1, as well as the penalty snatched by the Dutch-Ghanaian striker Brian Brobbey and converted by Steven Bergwijn .

Note, however, that the new star of Ajax, Ghanaian striker Mohammed Kuddus, was more discreet than usual.

Rangers (Scotland) – Liverpool FC (England) 1-7

Zambian Fashion Sakala's Glasgow Rangers were humiliated at home by Mohamed Salah's Liverpool.

The Egyptian, a substitute at kick-off, came on at 3-1 for the Reds.

He then delivered an incredible festival, scoring three times in a row in the space of six minutes: a shot from a tight angle, on the right;

then two subtle wrap strikes.

With five goals in all, here he is co-top scorer in the competition with the Norwegian Erling Haaland and the Polish Robert Lewandowski.

GROUP B

Atletico Madrid (Spain) – Club Brugge (Belgium) 0-0

Qualification for the round of 16 for the Belgian club which "beat" Atletico at its own game by winning a forceps draw in Spain.

The exclusion of Ghanaian striker Kamal Sowah – following a dispute – did not prevent the Bruges of Ivorian defender Abakar Sylla, Ghanaian defender Denis Odoi, Nigerian midfielder Raphael Onyedika and Angolan defender Clinton Mata (entering the game ) to stand up to the band of Mozambican side Reinildo and Central African midfielder Goeffrey Kondogbia.

Bayer Leverkusen (Germany) – FC Porto (Portugal) 0-3

The Franco-Moroccan Amine Adli leaves this meeting frustrated after having a goal disallowed and having obtained several clear chances.

His match was nevertheless much less painful than that of Burkinabe defender Edmond Tapsoba and that of Ivorian defender Odilon Kossounou.

The latter was overtaken by the opposing attackers.

The Nigerian Zaidu was present in the Portuguese ranks.

GROUP C

FC Barcelona (Spain) – Inter Milan (Italy) 3-3

Cameroonian goalkeeper André Onana took three from Barça, including two from Pole Robert Lewandowski.

But the Inter goalkeeper has little to be ashamed of on these three occasions.

Ivorian Franck Kessié made his appearance for Barcelona in the second half.

Viktorian Plzen (Czech Republic) – Bayern Munich (Germany) 2-4

A one-two Sadio Mané-Leon Goretzka allowed the Senegalese to start the proceedings with a close range shot.

Bayern Munich of Moroccan side Noussaïr Mazraoui (holder) and Cameroonian striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (substitute) did not however have a quiet match.

Nothing, however, can be compared with the meeting, necessarily difficult, experienced by the Beninese defender of the Czech club, Mohamed Tijani.

GROUP D

Tottenham (England) – Eintracht Frankfurt (Germany) 3-2

German-Togolese Faride Alidou maintained hopes of a draw by reducing the score to 3-2 with a big whim for Frankfurt from Franco-Cameroonian defender Evan Ndicka, from Franco-Cameroonian midfielder Eric Junior Dina Ebimbe and Franco-Congolese striker Randal Kolo Muani.

Malian Yves Bissouma entered for Tottenham around the hour mark.

Sporting Portugal (Portugal) – Olympique de Marseille (France) 0-2

Amine Harit was a poison for Sporting Ghanaian striker Fatawu Issahaku and Portuguese defender of Bissau-Guinean origin Flávio Nazinho.

The Moroccan attacking midfielder provoked a penalty and offered an assist.

The scenario of the match thus allowed Marseille to bring out the Ivorian defender Eric Bailly (informed) and to give playing time to Burkinabe midfielder Issa Kaboré and Senegalese midfielder Pape Gueye.

Congolese defender Chancel Mbemba played the entire game.
