She did not know about the killing of her 24 colleagues. A girl survived the massacre in Thailand because she was "asleep."

A three-year-old girl narrowly escaped death when a gunman brutally murdered 24 children in a Thai nursing home because they slept during the entire massacre.

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reported that the girl, identified only as Amy, was found awake and alive on Thursday as authorities inspected the horrors witnessed at the Young Child Development Center in the town of Uthai Sawan.

Amy was taken upstairs, her face covered with a blanket so she could not see the atrocities of the accident.

Her grandfather Somsak Srithong told the BBC: "She had no idea what had happened when she woke up."

It remains unclear exactly how Amy survived while all of her classmates were murdered.

Earlier reports indicated she was covered with a blanket when the attacker, identified by police as 34-year-old former policeman Banya Kamrap, entered her classroom.

Police said Banya also killed his wife and son before taking his own life.
