For the first time in three years, the traditional autumn event of cutting off deer antlers was held at Nara Park in Nara City, attracting a large number of visitors.

"Deer antler cutting" is a traditional event that is said to have started in the Edo period so that male deer in Nara Park who are in heat will not hurt people or other deer with their extended antlers.

Every year, it is crowded with a large number of visitors, but due to the influence of the new corona, it has been canceled for the first time in three years.

Three male deer are released at a time at the antlers cutting area in the deer shelter Rokuen, and people called "seko" in happi coats hold the deer against the wall using bamboo poles with red flags. I was pushing.

Then, a rope was put around the horn, and several people held it down, and then cut off the horn, which was about 50 centimeters long, with a saw.

When Seko caught a deer or cut off its antlers, the onlookers gave a big round of applause and enjoyed taking pictures.

A man in his 30s who visited from Chiba Prefecture said, "The deer were faster than I expected, and it was amazing to see everyone fighting against them."

"Deer antler cutting" is held until October 10th.
