Water traffic control implemented in some waters of Poyang Lake

  Since Poyang Lake entered the dry season, the water level has continued to drop, the water body has shrunk significantly, and the living environment of the finless porpoise is facing severe challenges.

In order to effectively protect and rescue finless porpoises, the Jiujiang Port and Shipping Administration recently issued a notice, deciding to implement water traffic control on the main distribution areas of Yangtze finless porpoises in the Poyang Lake District (Jiujiang section).

  Among them, the waters of Jishan-Songmenshan-Piaotou-Yongxiu No. 3 deep water pit in Poyang Lake are prohibited waters; Sheshan Island-Zhuxi Estuary waters, Wucheng Wanghu Pavilion-Zhuxi Estuary waters, Laoye Temple-Huoyanshan waters and Hukou waters The railway bridge-Xieshan water area is a water area with limited speed, and the speed should not exceed 15 kilometers per hour.

The notice requires that all ships entering the controlled waters should keep the on-board AIS (Automatic Identification System) and VHF (VHF) on, and be on duty. Vessel distance; when drivers find finless porpoises moving around, they should take the initiative to avoid them, and take measures such as slowing down and stopping if necessary.
