[Explanation] As the head of the 3D Plastic Art Modern Technology Application Research Center, School of Humanities, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Professor Jia Zhuofei leads the team to work on the digital protection and restoration of cultural relics all year round.

This technology digitally preserves cultural relics through three-dimensional scanning, which can not only retain valuable data of existing cultural relics for future generations, but also establish a database for overseas lost or domestic incomplete cultural relics through computer analysis, so as to give an overall shape recovery plan.

Professor Jia Zhuofei said that the digitization of cultural relics in the past belongs to the status quo preservation of cultural relics.

Their work focuses on finding out the original appearance of cultural relics through research data.

Our work is done on this basis. If it is not in one place, it is time-spaced (cultural relics), and it is concentrated on us, and we do a data aggregation.

I scattered it, I concentrated it, focused on looking for its original position, and reversely looked for its original composition format, we retrieved its original visual sense, which is a reverse search and restoration of (cultural relics) process.

[Explanation] So far, the team has completed multiple batches of 3D data collection of scattered overseas cultural relics. As the core technical team, it has jointly carried out the digital reconstruction project of the caisson of Beijing Zhihua Temple, the Longmen Grottoes Queen's Ritual Buddha Project and the Tang Zhaoling Six Horses Digital Restoration Research and a series of international cooperation projects.

[Concurrent] Ouyang Zhenyu, Lecturer of Art Department, School of Humanities, Xi'an Jiaotong University

For example, in the process of the digital reconstruction project of the caisson of Beijing Zhihua Temple, we will find that first of all, its data collection volume is very large, because its entire caisson area is very large, and because it has hollow carvings, so It has a large number of angles that do not have 3D data collection, and its space is too small, so we need to carry out a lot of manual refinement on it in the later stage.

[Explanation] Ouyang Zhenyu told reporters that the research on digital restoration of cultural relics is very complicated, and the collection of data by 3D scanning technology is only the beginning.

In the process of research, there will also be a lot of problems such as damage and loss of cultural relics, and even forgery of some parts. This requires the staff to infer and restore the original appearance of the cultural relic structure through research related to the history of architecture and art history. internal structure.

At the same time, it is necessary to study historical documents to remove the false and preserve the true.

Therefore, it is the most recognizable feature of the team that it is dominated by sculpture professionals.

[Explanation] For Ouyang Zhenyu, although this work requires running around, and the process is long and complicated, it is of great significance.

Because it can "rebirth" the broken cultural relics, so that the cultural relics that have been separated from their original conditions can return to their parent culture, and at the same time, it can also allow young people to perceive the original cultural features of these cultural relics in a digital form.

We can use this method of digitization, by combining different disciplines and interdisciplinary research methods, so that these cultural relics that we cannot see due to the limitations of time and space, which are scattered overseas, can be re-used in this way. The way of digital information comes back to our sights.

Of course, this vision can be very broad, it can be in the field of education, it can also be in the field of research, it can be in very broad fields such as patriotism, aesthetic education, etc., and it can have corresponding manifestations.
