Morning coffee turns into an expensive pleasure in Europe

The European Union's statistics office (Eurostat) said today, Thursday, that the morning cup of coffee has become an expensive pleasure, highlighting the increase in the price of coffee, in addition to sugar and milk.

"Recent price increases may make this morning staple a luxury," Eurostat said, noting that coffee prices increased on average by 16.9 percent in August compared to a year earlier.

The office added that the price of fresh full-fat milk increased by 24.3% on average, while the price of fresh skimmed milk increased by 22.2%.

The highest increase in coffee components was in sugar, as its average price jumped by 33.4%.

The data showed that prices for these four commodities increased in all EU countries except for Malta, where the prices of fresh skimmed milk did not change.
