An Egyptian actress of Syrian origin, born on October 4, 1945, she studied at the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts, then began her artistic life in the early sixties, and married twice, one of them to a Saudi prince for a short period, before she decided in the mid-1980s to retire from acting and wear the hijab.

Birth and upbringing

Shams Al-Malouk Jamil Ezzat Al-Baroudi, known artistically as Shams Al-Baroudi, was born on the 4th of October 1945 in the Warraq Al-Hatra neighborhood in Giza Governorate in central Egypt, to an Egyptian father and a Syrian mother.

Her grandfather moved from Syria to Cairo and worked in the trade, while part of the family remained in Syria, and Shams has one brother and 6 sisters.

Study and scientific training

Shams Al-Baroudi received her primary, preparatory and secondary education in Egypt in French schools, before joining the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in Cairo, where she studied for only two and a half years out of a total of 4 years, which is the duration of the study at the institute to obtain a bachelor's degree, and then turned to acting.

marriage

Shams Al-Baroudi married Saudi Prince Khaled bin Saud in 1969, and at the time received the title of princess, but she separated from him after a short period of time, which according to sources varied between 3 months and 13 months only.

And in February 1972, Shams married the Egyptian artist Hassan Youssef, but they separated after only two months, due to differences between them and Hassan Youssef's desire for Al-Baroudi to retire and devote herself to married life.

After her quick divorce from Hassan Youssef, Shams lived a love story with director Hossam El Din Mostafa, and the duo began preparing for marriage, so everyone was surprised by her return to Hassan Youssef, who bore him 4 sons, Nariman, Mahmoud, Omar (the only one working in the field of acting) and Abdullah, as well. Shams Al-Baroudi has a niece who also works in the field of acting, the artist Ghada Adel, and she is related to actress Reem Al-Baroudi.

Shams Al-Baroudi began her artistic life in the early sixties, and at that time she was still using her first name, Shams Al-Muluk, but soon changed her nickname, to become Shams Al-Baroudi after her family name.

Shams’ first cinematic appearance was in 1961 in the comedy movie “Husband for Rent” starring the Egyptian artist Ismail Yassin and directed by Issa Karama, and a year later she presented “Dunia Al Banat”, and in 1965 she participated in presenting “She and the Men” and “The Punishment”, but the audience knew her after That the girlfriend of Soad Hosni appeared in the movie "Wedding Night" in the same year.

As for her first role in the absolute championship, it came in 1966 in the television series "The Bitter Honey", written by Youssef Ezz El-Din Issa and directed by Abdel Moneim Shoukry.

After that, Shams played many roles in Egyptian cinema. Among the films in which she participated are: Hammam El Malatili, Fun and Torment, and Malay Street.

Shams participated with her husband, artist Hassan Youssef, in many works, whether he acted or directed them, including "Love Journey", which is the first tournament that brought them together, "Coward and Love", "Was Love", "Happy Marriage", and " Baba is the last to know."

Achievements

Shams Al-Baroudi presented 45 films to Egyptian cinema, the first of which is “Husband for Rent” in 1961, and the last of which is “Two on the Road” in 1984. She also presented the drama only two series, “The Bitter Honey” in 1966 and “After Torment” in 1969, and presented to the radio a single series. It's "Oops, No Revenge" in 1980.

decision to retire

In 1985, Shams Al-Baroudi decided to retire from acting and wear the niqab after the trip she took with her father to perform Umrah, and she also repudiated all the works she participated in.

Immediately after her retirement from art, Shams published an advertisement on the page of an Egyptian newspaper declaring her disavowal of her work and wrote, "Whoever harms a Muslim is harmed by God, and whoever hardens a Muslim is harmed by God, the Messenger of God has believed... Old films that were filmed many years ago, and she also announced that she retired from art permanently after returning from Umrah since February 1982, and God suffices, and he is the best agent.

By 2008, Shams was forced to take off the niqab after the restrictions on those who wear it in England after the London bombings, as she was traveling to visit her daughter there. At that time, Sheikh Al-Shaarawy told her that the niqab is not an obligation, so she contented herself with wearing the hijab.
