  Xu Furong, 40 years old this year, is the head nurse of the ICU of the Third Emergency Department of Hunan Provincial People's Hospital.

She has been engaged in nursing for 14 years. She has taken root in the intensive care unit. She uses her professional knowledge and skills in the front line of treating and saving people and the battlefield of epidemic prevention and control, and serves patients with care, sweat, warmth and sincerity.   "I have more than ten years of clinical work experience in the ICU, and have treated H1N1 and H7N9 severe bird flu patients. I am young and experienced. I will go first!" At the beginning of 2020, the new crown pneumonia was raging, and the whole country started a battle to prevent and control the epidemic.

At the most critical juncture of the epidemic in Hubei, Xu Furong took the initiative to ask Zhan to help Huanggang.

It only took two hours from receiving the notice to departure. She arranged the work in the department as quickly as possible, said goodbye to her husband and daughter and went to Huanggang.

  After arriving in Huanggang, Xu Furong was ordered to serve as the head nurse of the Department of Critical Care Medicine (Hunan ICU) of the Hunan Medical Team.

In just three days, she and her comrades built a "battlefield ICU" and completed the "impossible task". The 15 most critically ill patients in Huanggang were the first to be admitted.

"In the first days, I was unfamiliar with the machines, equipment, and personnel in the local hospital. More than 20 nursing staff came from all over Hunan, most of them were non-critical specialist nurses, and they all needed to be adapted."

  Xu Furong said that the ICU is the most dangerous place closest to the "enemy". They are facing the most critically ill patients in Huanggang. "If we win, Huanggang will win."

As the backbone of the team, Xu Furong manages everything in place, and professionally attends the scene from time to time.

She performed all major rescues and difficult operations herself, turning over and slapping the back without any ambiguity; sucking phlegm, cleaning up urine, and never flinching; washing the hair and body of the patients, and never shouting tired.

  Under the protective clothing, the sweat on Xu Furong's body became dry and wet, wet and dry many times, and the water vapor on the goggles was layer after layer.

She also went to great lengths and tried her best to deliver brand new cotton-padded clothes, steamed apples, and hot bubbling nutritional powder to the patients. Together with the nurses, she patiently guided the anxious patients and accompanies the fearful patients to lengthen their knees.   During Huanggang's 42 days of perseverance, Xu Furong and the team completed the treatment of 49 critically ill patients, achieving the goal of zero infection for medical staff and zero accidents for patients.

After returning from Huanggang, she didn't have time to empty her luggage, so she put on the shirt again, as a member of the China (Hunan) Anti-epidemic Expert Group and a nursing expert to help Africa fight the epidemic.

After 42 days of persistence in Huanggang, Xu Furong and the team members achieved zero patients.

  In just one month, Xu Furong and her teammates crossed the northern hemisphere together, flew over 30,000 kilometers, traveled through 7 time zones, traveled to 2 countries, traveled 3,600 kilometers on the African continent, visited 72 institutions and units, and used China's anti-virus technology. The experience and spirit of the epidemic has shown to the people of the world China's image as a great country and the boundless love of Chinese doctors.

On the eve of returning to China, Xu Furong and members of the expert group also submitted a 12,000-word "National Proposal for the Prevention and Control of the New Crown Epidemic" to the two countries.

  Xu Furong, who has been sticking to the frontline of the ICU clinical practice, also knows that the successful cure of critically ill patients is a "two-way journey" that requires the joint efforts of patients and medical staff.

  In February 2021, 34-year-old Xiaotang was admitted to Xu Furong's department due to severe acute pancreatitis.

In order to encourage Xiaotang, Xu Furong thought of a way to write an "ICU diary" for Xiaotang.

Xu Furong and her teammates helped Africa fight the epidemic, shared Chinese experience, answered questions during training, and provided suggestions for improvement.

  Xiao Tang was discharged from the hospital, but the "deed of kindness" continued.

So far, Xu Furong and her team have written "ICU diaries" for 19 patients.
