The 12th edition of the "Milestones...Ismail Khayat" exhibition series, one of the most prominent founders of the Kurdish art scene, kicked off yesterday at the Sharjah Art Museum.

The exhibition includes more than 130 different artworks.

The exhibition, which was inaugurated by Sheikh Salem bin Abdul Rahman Al Qasimi, Head of the Ruler's Office in Sharjah, included a number of Ismail Khayat's most famous works.

Sheikh Salem bin Abdul Rahman Al Qasimi toured the exhibition, and was briefed on the various experiences of the artist that documented his artistic career over nearly six decades.

During his tour, he listened to a detailed explanation of the works and sections in the exhibition, familiarizing with the various works presented by the artist Khayat during a long journey in the world of art, as he is one of the most prominent artists in the Arab world, and an icon of Kurdish art.

Among the most prominent works in the exhibition, which will continue until November 27, is the painting "Sad Face", which is painted in ink and watercolors on paper, a painting representing birds and women from the artist's point of view, painted with charcoal and pen on paper, and the painting "A Person's Thoughts" in which he employed a tailor in oil colors. Creatively on canvas and wood, in addition to the painting "The Kurdish People", which he painted with different and comprehensive media and techniques using colored pencil. The artist's creations were not limited to drawing on paper and cardboard only, but also extended to include carpets, ceramics and wood.

Ismail Khayat is classified as one of the most prominent and prolific artists of modernity, as he was known as the grandfather of Kurdish art or the man of stones, and Picasso of Iraq. It is folklore and symbolism in his country, which distinguished his different methods of storytelling, understanding recent discoveries, and transmitting and documenting the movement and societal manifestations.

The exhibition attempts to shed light on Ismail Khayat’s experience, highlight his abundant production, demonstrate his method of analyzing reality, raising awareness of the arts, and exploring his practice and its impact on the art scene. that distinguished his work.
