Nineteen years ago in 2003, Shinya Furukawa (then 26), a former restaurant employee, was murdered and abandoned in Okutama-cho, Tokyo. An arrest warrant was obtained on suspicion of murder, etc., and an international arrangement was made.

Investigators in South Africa reportedly found a body believed to be the suspect, and a local DNA test found the body to be "consistent" with that of the suspect.

According to investigative sources, the Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that the body belonged to the person himself after further confirmation by a domestic specialized agency, and sent the document to the prosecutor on the 3rd as the suspect died.

It is believed that he committed suicide based on the suicide note that was found, and the Metropolitan Police Department has decided to end the investigation that has spanned nearly 20 years.
