Tabler explained - in his talk to "Beyond the News" program 10/2/2022 - that Lebanon is unable to provide electricity to the people and is in dire need of gas, and that Israel wants to extract gas from its field, and this is what made the two countries move away from the war and agree to spend their interests.

The Secretary-General of the Lebanese Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, said that the Lebanese officials will decide on the border agreement, and that Lebanon is facing crucial days in the file of demarcating its southern maritime borders, and he hoped that the outcome would be good, as he described it.

For his part, the Lebanese writer and political analyst Wassim Bazzi considered that Lebanon feels a great achievement achieved by the state, the people and the resistance, which had a strong presence in this path and made a qualitative difference in the dynamics of the agreement, according to him.

Noting that the golden opportunity crystallized in the past five months.

On the Israeli side, Israeli writer and political analyst Eli Nissan said that there is a ready-made draft that serves the interests of Lebanon and Israel without resorting to war, but rather depends mainly on understanding and demarcation of borders, explaining that the Qana field will be under Lebanese sovereignty and Karish field will be under Israel's sovereignty.

Netanyahu attacks the agreement

For his part, the leader of the right-wing opposition in Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, attacked the expected border demarcation agreement with Lebanon, and vowed to withdraw its recognition if he is elected prime minister in the future.

Commenting on this, Nissan considered that Netanyahu is not familiar with all the details of the agreement between Israel and Lebanon regarding the maritime borders, recalling that Israel is not against the Lebanese side, which did not declare escalatory threats as in the past, and this is what made him consider that the atmosphere is ripe for reaching an agreement between the two countries.

As for the US State Department, it confirmed that the US Special Coordinator continues to be engaged to end discussions on demarcating the maritime borders between Lebanon and Israel, and expressed its belief that the maritime border demarcation agreement between the two countries will enhance stability in the region.

It is noteworthy that Lebanese sources confirmed that the US draft of the maritime border demarcation agreement between Lebanon and Israel responds to Beirut's demands and grants it the Qana oil field;

But it does not include the imposition of a buffer zone.

For its part, Israel said that the proposal guarantees its security and economic interests.
