Chief Cabinet Secretary Hiroshi Kojima of the National Police Agency has been appointed as the head of the Metropolitan Police Department.



Mr. Kojima is 57 years old from Osaka.



He joined the National Police Agency in 1988 and has served as Chief of the Ishikawa Prefectural Police and Hokkaido Police, and has been Chief Cabinet Secretary of the National Police Agency since September last year.



Superintendent General Yoshihiko Oishi, who resigned, was in charge of the security of former Prime Minister Abe's "state funeral" held on the 27th of last month.
