The police officers of Périgueux (Dordogne) thus recounted on their Facebook page the misadventure of an octogenarian, in a post published on September 27;

The victim was first approached near her home by a man offering to get rid of small maggots in green plants.

She agreed to let him into her apartment and the scammer was able to set up his scheme.

“The trick used by the somewhat conjuring thief is to have maggots in a pocket of his clothing, which he discreetly sows just before showing them to the victim as if they were there long before,” detail the police.

The man thus discovered worms in the plants but also in the jewelry box of the old lady.

He then asked her to get a plastic bag to throw them away;

just enough time for him to steal the jewels and run away.
