The Seoul Institute of Health and Environment announced that an ozone advisory has been issued for 8 districts (Seongdong, Gwangjin, Dongdaemun, Jungnang, Seongbuk, Gangbuk, Dobong, Nowon) in the northeastern region of Seoul as of 3 pm on the 1st.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government issues a warning when the average ozone concentration for an hour in an autonomous district belonging to the region is 0.120ppm or higher.

As of 3 p.m. that day, the ozone concentration in Nowon-gu was 0.131 ppm.

Ozone is a secondary pollutant produced by photochemical reaction of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the atmosphere with solar energy.

High concentrations of ozone irritate the respiratory tract and eyes, causing inflammation and, in severe cases, respiratory problems.

"Children, the elderly, and people with respiratory or cardiovascular diseases, please refrain from outdoor activities," the researcher said.
