In connection with the last final in 2018, the organizers, the association Förenade fororter, announced that the competition would be closed.

But things turned around quickly and just over a year later the idea was to organize the competition again, then the pandemic broke out.

Now, four years later, Orten's best poet is back.

Saman Sokhanran at United Suburbs is the artistic director of the competition and says that despite the last edition of the competition achieving great success, the organizers instead want to focus on the competition's core values.

- We did this because we wanted to build a poetry scene out in the suburbs and we wanted to move the culture and an art scene to people who live out here.

These are our core values and this is what we will do again.

So we come back humble and not so arrogant that we think we will repeat a success, but we will do a poetry competition in the suburbs, he says.

United suburbs organizes the competition together with various associations in suburbs all over the country.

This year, competitions are held in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö, Helsingborg, Borås, Jönköping, Borlänge and Umeå.

The final will be held in December.

- Poetry is an everyday concept and not an elitist concept, the competition helps with that.

It helps to be some kind of nursery for future poets, cultural practitioners taking their first steps.

It is both an amateur scene and a poetry scene.

- It means a lot to many people, says Saman Sokhanran.
