Drawing on a collection of touching images of traffic accidents, and real and unedited emergency calls, six artists were able to raise awareness of road safety and safe driving to avoid traffic accidents, so that art can play a role in saving lives.

The artists, whose works were shown the day before yesterday at the “Infinity de Lumiere” in the Dubai Mall, as part of the “In Their Eyes” initiative, organized by “Onstar” from General Motors, re-formulated the topic of traffic accidents by depicting the true feelings of the accident victims through the language of creativity and methods Diverse art.

The six artists: Hamad Al-Humaidan, Christel Bishara, Galina Gorlova, Simon Kazanjian, Somaya Al-Suwaidi, Asma Al-Rumaithi, drew their works from photos of traffic accidents and emergency calls. Their paintings reflect these painful scenes, and clearly express the need to adhere to safety rules.

The artists relied on a variety of artistic techniques, including comics, digital art, abstraction, and serial designs to converge the subject from different angles.

The paintings invite the public to contemplate the danger of accidents to the person himself as well as to others, through scenes associated with the seat belt, unsafe driving or even stripping the forms of fast cars and the danger they carry.

The works were displayed in the "Infinity de Lumiere", which is characterized by the technology of displaying works on the entire walls of the hall through huge screens, and the artworks were shown using sound effects to record the sound of collision in traffic accidents, and the audience entered a state of shock that moved them to explore human messages.

Emirati artist Sumaya Al Suwaidi presented the scene of the bear putting on the seat belt, and talked about her work for "Emirates Today", and said: "I wanted to send a message to people that if you want to enjoy all the beauty that is available to us on earth, we must adhere to safe driving, and not Recklessness, because recklessness leads to the loss of life or even the loss of the lives of others.”

She pointed out that she worked on her painting in a plastic-digital artistic style, as she relies on assembling pictures and installing a special scene that serves her vision at work, and then begins to draw the painting, explaining that she was greatly affected by the films she watched about traffic accidents, and she presented four works until she was convinced of the painting that she will participate in. Because the message that must be shown to people must be clear, and without scenes causing shock to people, simple art succeeds more in conveying deep messages.

The artist Asmaa Al-Rumaithi presented her awareness message through the art of comics, specifically "manga", through her character, which she always draws and bears the name "Asami", relying on the fun and light style.

Al-Rumaithi pointed out that she put the character in the car, and in a series of events and situations she encounters while driving on the road as a result of her use of the phone, explaining that she faced a real challenge in expressing a very serious topic that carries painful scenes while trying to simplify the information.

As for the British artist Galina Gorlova, who has been subjected to many traffic accidents until fear prevents her from driving, she presented her vision that combines private suffering and a message to society, and said about her work: “I work with digital art technology, and she presented a painting about the passengers of the car and the concept of confidence in the driver and the vehicle, and she placed A scenario that embodies the right decision that the driver must take at the right time.”

She added: "Today, I am unable to drive because of the accidents that I have experienced, so the issue of accidents touches me, and I wanted to send the message to all people through the colors with the concept of confidence in the driver, as well as the suffering after the trauma of accidents."

She found it difficult to talk about road safety through art, and people might really ignore the issue, but it's an issue that deserves to be highlighted on a permanent basis.

Speaking about this initiative, Shereen Harris, Marketing Director of Onstar Middle East, said: “We have noticed that accidents do not witness direct interaction from people. In fact, we must find a way to talk about this issue constantly in order to change the wrong habits on the road.”

She noted that they have a lot of statistics about the number of deaths caused by traffic accidents, which are shocking numbers.
