In order to increase the number of "lifesaving supporters" who can use AEDs to treat people who suddenly have cardiac arrest, an organization made up of doctors has started a project to develop a smartphone application that displays the location of the nearest AED and call for its use.

An AED is a medical device that delivers an electric shock to a person who has a sudden cardiac arrest due to a sudden heart failure.

It has been 18 years since AEDs became available to the general public, but according to the Japan AED Foundation, which is made up of doctors, the percentage of people who collapsed in front of someone and were treated with an AED was 5%. It means that it remains below

For this reason, the foundation named people who can use AEDs for treatment as "lifesaving supporters", and decided to start a project to increase such people, and developed a dedicated app.

The app has a "search for the nearest AED" function that, when clicked, displays the locations and directions to the three closest AEDs from your current location, saving you time in searching for them in an emergency.

In addition to being able to check the flow of lifesaving methods with illustrations, you can also register new AEDs that are not yet displayed on the map in the app.

Taku Iwami, Executive Director of the Japan AED Foundation, said, "It is important to use an AED as soon as possible to save the life of a person whose heart has stopped. I want to save you," he says.
