Hayden Panettiere may not have given up custody of her daughter Kaya voluntarily after all.

As the American actress said on the program "Red Table Talk", she felt taken by surprise in 2018 when her former partner Wladimir Klitschko presented her with the papers for signature after the breakup.

"It wasn't a real agreement because we hadn't discussed the issue before," Panettiere recalled.

She assumed she would be able to spend time with Kaya again after trying to get off alcohol and opioids.

"But that didn't happen," the former child star said on Wednesday.

Klitschko, a former world boxing champion, now lives in Ukraine with Panettiere's seven-year-old daughter.

In an interview with "People" a few months ago, the actress ("Nashville") admitted her years of addiction to alcohol and drugs.

After Kaya's birth, postnatal depression drove her further into addiction.

Panettiere is said to be living without vodka and pills again.

The thirty-three-year-old met Klitschko in 2009 through mutual friends.

After a series of breakups and reconciliations, the couple announced their engagement at the end of 2013, and Kaya was born a year later.
