On September 27, the Ministry of Education held a press conference. Liu Changya, Director of the Development Planning Department of the Ministry of Education, introduced that China's ability to independently cultivate high-level innovative talents has been significantly improved.

In 2021, there will be a total of 3.332 million postgraduate students in the country, nearly doubling from 2012. Among them, 509,000 are doctoral students; 1.954 million are postgraduate students in "double first-class" universities, accounting for 58.7% of the country.

Focusing on major national strategic needs, the “Strengthening Foundation Plan” has recruited more than 18,000 people, and the basic discipline top-notch talent training plan has attracted more than 10,000 outstanding students to join the basic disciplines.

  At present, China has formed a scientific and technological innovation system of colleges and universities with a clear layout and reasonable levels, and has achieved a number of landmark and major scientific and technological achievements.

Promote the prosperity and development of philosophy and social sciences in colleges and universities.

Support the establishment of more than 36,000 research projects in the philosophy and social sciences of the Ministry of Education, 151 key research bases in the humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of Education, 30 laboratories of philosophy and social sciences of the Ministry of Education, and the Outstanding Achievement Award for Scientific Research in Colleges and Universities (Humanities and Social Sciences) A total of 3277 award-winning achievements were selected.

Universities have led the construction of 38% of the national high-end think tanks and undertaken more than 90% of the National Social Science Fund projects.
