Haruyuki Takahashi, 78, a former director of the Organizing Committee of the Tokyo 2020 Games, received a request from Yoshikazu Taniguchi, 57, an executive officer of the advertising company Daiko, to undertake the sponsorship contract for the Tokyo Games, and made arrangements for it. As a reward for this, he was re-arrested by the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office on the 27th on suspicion of receiving bribes totaling 15 million yen in the three years until February this year.



According to people involved, the former director was asked by Director Taniguchi to support Ohiro's business partner, a service company, to sign a contract with the organizing committee as a tournament sponsor.



In response to this, the former director is suspected of working with the organizing committee to quickly conclude a contract, and Ohiro received tens of millions of yen in compensation for undertaking contract work for this company.



The Special Investigation Department is believed to be proceeding with an investigation, assuming that Taniguchi provided a bribe of 15 million yen as a reward for Ohiro's large amount of compensation.
