He was transferred to the West China Hospital of Sichuan University on September 21 and entered the ICU for treatment, and was transferred to the general ward to recuperate on September 25. Currently in good spirits.

Gan Yu, who lost contact after the Luding earthquake, touched the hearts of many people. He survived 17 days after the earthquake and was successfully rescued. He was also called a "miracle of life" by netizens.

According to information disclosed by West China Hospital of Sichuan University on September 21, the preliminary diagnosis was that Gan Yu suffered multiple soft tissue contusions throughout his body, fractured ribs, and fractured fibula of his left lower extremity, accompanied by severe infection.

Gan Yu's vital signs are stable and his consciousness is clear, but his body is weak and needs rest.

The mountains and forests after the earthquake are full of danger and unknown.

What has Gan Yu experienced in these 17 days?

What have you done?

And what supported him through the unimaginable 17 days?

On September 26, the Red Star News reporter contacted Gan Yu by phone and listened to him tell about the life and death experience of these 17 days.

Reporter: How is your physical condition?

How is your mental state?

Gan Yu:

Well, much better.

Reporter: Now (in hospital treatment), do you still remember the earthquake?

Gan Yu:

Occasionally, I can think of it, but I was lonely at the time.

  Reporter: What keeps you going?

Gan Yu:

I just want to survive.

(I think) there must be people around looking for me, and they must find me.

Reporter: What did you do when you saved yourself?

Did you try to start a fire or leave any marks?

Gan Yu:

I have been calling for help.

I don't have anything (fire tools) on me, and have tried (fire), can't make it, it's wet, it's raining every night.

Have done some nests.

Reporter: How do you escape when it rains?

Gan Yu:

I have a raincoat on my body, and I just huddle there, occasionally on the edge of a cliff (to hide from the rain).

Reporter: What did you experience in the mountains?

Have you encountered a beast (dangerous)?

Gan Yu:

It's easy to get lost in the mountains, and you can't see the way you used to.

I haven't encountered any beasts, but I have heard voices, only hiding in a dark corner, huddled in a ball, not making a sound.

Reporter: What do you eat when you save yourself?

Gan Yu:

Just drink water.

During the earthquake, I lost my glasses and couldn't see, but I felt wild kiwis on the ground.

(Myopia) 500 degrees.

Reporter: What were you doing when the earthquake happened?

Gan Yu:

We were resting in the hut, we were shaking (during the earthquake), and we immediately came out to see that everything collapsed.

Reporter: After the earthquake, why did you think of going to open the sluice together with Luo Yong?

Gan Yu:

We looked at the water level at the time. If we didn't release the water, the water would overturn the dam, and the losses would be even greater, and we couldn't escape.

Reporter: How did you get hurt?

Gan Yu:

When the aftershock occurred, a stone hit the leg (fractured), and when the landslide occurred, it also fell.

Reporter: How did you separate from Luo Yong at that time?

Gan Yu:

After opening the sluice gate to release water, we stayed on the dam for one night. It was still very dangerous, so we wanted to save ourselves.

Because my colleague (Luo Yong) was a local and could find a way, he took me up.

The next day, my cell phone had a signal, so I called for rescue, and let us wait for rescue in place.

But we have been sleepy for two or three days and have not eaten.

Luo Yong said that we have to go anyway, we walk a little bit forward, and they come to pick us up a little bit closer.

Because everywhere is broken (the road is very difficult to walk), (my) physical strength is exhausted, if the two of them continue to consume so much and can't walk, (me) will let him find rescue, I will wait here, my Physical strength is not as good as his.

He's gone, and he can save me too.

Reporter: Why did you leave later?

How long have you waited?

Gan Yu:

I am also afraid that he will have an accident on the road because there are aftershocks.

After waiting for three or four days, I decided to go by myself, in the direction he said earlier.

Reporter: During the 17 days in the mountains, did you ever feel hopeless?

Gan Yu:

There will still be, especially at night, but I still want to survive and miss my family.

Reporter: What was the scene and mood when Ni Taigao discovered it?

Gan Yu:

I called for help, and when I heard someone responded, I knew someone was there, so I kept calling for help.

I was so excited to see him that someone finally found me.

Reporter: Now that you have been rescued, what do you want to do most?

Gan Yu:

I want to go out and play with my family.
